GU
Chomps are a gummy chew containing electrolytes, vitamins C and E, and
amino acids. Each package of Chomps comes with eight Chomps inside
which amounts to two servings of 90 calories each. Each serving
contains 100% of the daily recommended serving of both Vitamins E and C.
There are currently four flavors available; blueberry-pomegranate,
orange, cranberry-apple and strawberry. GU is currently introducing a
new watermelon flavor. Cranberry-apple and strawberry both contain
caffeine while the others are caffeine-free. According to the
packaging, each package will fuel 1 1/2 to 2 hours of activity.
Our
Appalachian Trail hike so far has been fueled by GU Chomps. We have
been receiving them in our mail-drops and they have been one of our most
anticipated item. The caffeine GU Chomps have been a great boost in
the morning and near lunch while the caffeine-free Chomps have been
great, continuing to fuel us in the afternoon and staving off hunger
before hitting camp. It is always a sad moment when we consume our last
package from our mail-drops.
The
Chomps are not overly sweet or even salty. They have a nice balanced
flavor that is not light or wimpy. The flavors are all very good. We
both enjoy all the flavors, the new watermelon flavor is also
surprisingly good. I wasn’t sure I would like the new watermelon but I
find it quite nice and very accurate in flavor. The texture of the
Chomps are a little more firm then a Gummy Bear but without the
toughness. The Chomps are easy to chew and aren’t overly sticky. I do
find that they do tend to stick a little between my teeth but not in an
excessive manner. A little water, recommended by GU, to wash them down
clears out most of the bits while also flavoring the water.GU Chomps have been a great addition to our food on our adventures. We love the taste and how well they keep us fueled during the day.
